Saudi builds the largest phosphate fertilizer project

Saudi MPC Phosphate Fertilizer Company recently announced that the company has begun initial production of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and diammonium phosphate. The current project cost US$5.5 billion and will become the largest phosphate fertilizer project in the world.


MPC was invested by Saudi Arabia Mining Company and Saudi Basic Industries Co., Ltd. for a joint venture of US$6 billion. The project equipment includes a phosphate rock and related equipment in northern Saudi Arabia and a processing plant on the East Coast. The products include sulfuric acid, ammonia, phosphoric acid and diammonium phosphate. Once the project is completed, it will become the lowest cost diammonium phosphate project in the world.
