They are young people born after 1985 and are second- or third-generation migrant workers. Compared with their parents, they are more familiar with high-tech products and understand the dynamics of the Internet. Like their parents, they are still on the edge of the industry, urban and rural areas. Edge, institutional edge. They are called "Post 80" young workers.
According to China's Statistical Communiqué on the Development of Human Resources and Social Security in 2010, more than 150 million migrant workers went out last year. According to estimates, the "post-80" group accounts for about 60% of the total number of about 100 million, and is showing an expanding trend.
What kind of attitude of life does the "post-80" young worker have? In the urban-rural dual system, what are their anxieties and appeals? How to open more uphill channels for them? Recently, the China National Textile and Apparel Federation and the Swiss Union's Children's Rights and Social Responsibility Center released in Beijing a "review of the new generation of young workers - listen to the voice of young workers after the 80" research report.
According to Sun Ruizhe, vice president of the China Textile Industry Federation, this study lasted for more than four months and nearly 700 research samples were obtained from six textile and clothing and food companies. The research content mainly reflects the problems of the new generation of young workers that are generally concerned by enterprises and all walks of life, and puts forward relevant suggestions.
“This survey was conducted by the post-80s young workers throughout the process.” Sun Ruizhe said that the uniqueness of this survey is that it adopts a “first-line, participatory” survey led by young workers, that is, using young workers as research. Personnel, after providing related training and tools, ask them to go deep into the production and living scene, record the daily work and life around them, and understand their ideas and wishes.
The report pointed out that the "post-80" young workers change jobs more frequently. Their basic basic needs are to increase salary levels, participate in professional skills training, and win more respect from the community. The general career ambition is to start a business on their own, but there is a lack of planning for the future. Their ideals are relatively single and they are very pragmatic. Most of them want to be bosses and individuals and look forward to a decent living.
More and more "rattering work"
Only 26.1% of people never changed their jobs. They feel easily overlooked in factory management.
Wei Yun, a 22-year-old Shan boy from the Red River Village of Yunnan Province, went to work in junior high school without graduating and was called “rogue” in his own words. This kind of “rogue” work means that he has changed several jobs, of which the short one has only a short period of two months.
The survey found that the vast majority of young workers have less than 3 years of work experience. Since working outside the home, 20.2% have replaced one job, 33.0% have replaced twice, and 20.7% have replaced more than 3 times. The total of the three is as high as 73.9%. Only 26.1% of them have never changed their jobs. The main factors influencing their job selection are fair and equitable remuneration, the attractiveness of the work itself, friendly management and work environment, and the presence of relatives or friends. Beside, expect to become a professional and gain a solid career development.
In the survey, 90.4% of respondents had junior high school or above education level, 88.7% came from multi-child families, 92.3% were unmarried, and more than half had no experience in conventional agricultural production. After graduating from school, they went to work in other cities.
After graduating from junior high school, Long Wei worked at an electronics factory in Hangzhou. When it comes to work experience, he thinks that "itself is a robot that faces the robot every day." "There is no freedom of life and personal imagination. People are tired, boring, making money, eating, and sleeping. One day passes." He said helplessly.
The words “after 80′′ young workers think that they can describe their psychological feelings at work during the past week are “irritated”, “boring”, and “repressed”. In the questionnaire survey, there were 47.1%, 39.5% and 37.5% of the people who experienced these three negative emotions respectively. Only 36 young workers participating in the questionnaire thought they felt "comfortable" at work, accounting for 8.6%. They feel vulnerable to neglect in factory management and are eager to have richer and meaningful leisure time.
Pay more attention to self value realization
I hope to live with dignity and dignity. The realistic expectation is to raise the salary level and participate in professional skills training.
Just after 16 years old, Guangxi girl Fang Lu and her sister worked in a garment factory in Guangdong. Because she learned sewing techniques, she started at a higher rate than other workers and earned more than 1,500 yuan in the first month. When Fang Lu said that she got a salary, she "leaves her happy!" She sent 1300 of them to her mother. More than once, Fang Lu earned 3,700 yuan, which is the third of the 700 employees in the entire factory.
When she first came out to work, Fang Lu’s idea was very simple. It was to make money to support the family. Later, she gradually had her own ideals and plans, and most of the money was saved. Although only elementary school graduates, Fang Lu has always insisted on reading, she just finished reading a book about marketing. “I hope that I can buy a facade shop in my hometown to open a clothing store. Of course, this is just the first step in my dream of realizing my boss.”
Fang Lu is not an example. More and more “post-80s” young workers begin to pay attention to the realization of self-worth. From the results of the survey, they have a stronger demand for self-respect. They generally desire to be self-reliant and pursue autonomy. This is mainly reflected in the fact that most “post-80” young workers want to live with dignity and dignity without looking at the faces of others; they hope to be independent. Do not rely on family; hope that he can make a difference, establish a harmonious and stable home, and put his family in the city.
The general and outstanding practical expectations of the "post-80" young workers are manifold. Among them, raising salary levels and participating in professional skills training are two prominent basic requirements. According to the survey data, 61.5% of people hope that their factory will “increase wage levels”, 66.9% want to participate in professional skills training, and 68.8% indicate that they need training in labor skills.
Enterprises need to strengthen "non-material care"
Enterprises should formulate care plans for new employees and enhance young workers’ active participation in enterprise management
According to Zhang Junfeng, deputy director of the Institute of Labor Research of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the publication of the research report will help companies and all parties in society understand the opinions of the new generation of migrant workers and stimulate entrepreneurs and government departments to discuss social responsibility. In order to better protect the rights of the new generation of migrant workers, it will promote the sustained and healthy development of the industry.
“Concern and support the development of post-80s young workers is an important part of corporate social responsibility, and the “non-material care” of young workers is an important factor for enterprises to build and improve soft power, enhance competitiveness, and promote sustainable development. Zhang Li, vice president of the China National Textile and Apparel Federation, suggested that companies should formulate care plans for new employees so that young workers can gain trust and security, and they can cultivate positive attitudes and initiatives by front-line managers and create safety for young workers. , a healthy environment, while enhancing the active involvement of young workers in business management.
“Caring for the new generation of migrant workers is becoming a consensus of the Chinese society.” Li Ping, director of business development at Rui Li Zhibo’s Children’s Rights and Social Responsibility Center believes that caring for them, respecting them, understanding them, and pursuing their careers are full of hope for life. This is not only a social responsibility that companies should undertake, but also an important issue that must be addressed to build a harmonious society and promote sustainable economic and social development. "Next, we will start training corporate management to help them develop a youth care plan."
