Distribution system automation master mode

The integrated master station mode of the distribution management system refers to the use of a master station system to monitor and manage all the distribution networks in the areas under his jurisdiction. The system communication predecessor communicates with all substation systems within the jurisdiction, remote terminal unit (RTU), feeder remote terminal (FTU), transformer test terminal (TTU), etc., using a unified database, including SCADA at the master station level. Distribution management systems, including systems and feeder automation systems, manage distribution networks.

Adopting the integrated master station design scheme requires the construction of a large-scale master station system that includes the functions of geographic information systems. The functions are perfect and resources and information can be fully shared to prevent overlapping of equipment and functions. At the same time, duplicate investments can be avoided. The disadvantages are the complexity of the system, the large investment, and the long construction period. Because the functions are too concentrated, the reliability of the system is required to be high, so the impact of system failure is large.

The integrated master station scheme is a vast system project that is applicable to power supply units with a relatively developed economy and abundant capital. In China, distribution automation is still in its infancy, and there is no long-term operation experience. There are many contents that do not have standards and specifications, and it is not advisable to establish a large-scale distribution network management system with complete functions. From the point of view of realizing the function of distribution automation, that is, substation automation and feeder automation, in order to save investment and enhance system flexibility, a large integrated master station system is not required, and a two-stage master station mode may be used.
