New identification equipment can quickly determine DNA
Previously, the DNA collected at the crime scene had to be brought back to the laboratory for identification. It took more than half a day to obtain the identification results.
The new instrument developed by Japan's NEC Corporation can identify the DNA of the crime scene within 25 minutes, and quickly compare the results of the on-site identification with the DNA database of criminal record holders held by the police. The new instrument, which is the same size as a medium-sized suitcase, weighs 3.2 kilograms and can be carried directly into the crime scene. The instrument is equipped with a plastic plate with an elongated depression 5 cm wide.
