Luo Luo was awarded a LNG propulsion system package for a freighter
It is reported that Rolls-Royce plans to supply the LNG propulsion system to a cargo ship being built at the Tersan shipyard in Turkey, designed by NSK Marine Design Company for the Norwegian shipowner NSK.
The newly built ship is slightly larger than the sister ship MS Høydal, which was also built by Tersan shipyard in 2012. At the time, the "MS Høydal" was the world's first LNG-powered freighter.
With a total length of 81.5 meters, the vessel can deliver 2,700 tons of fish food for the BioMar Group's multiple fisheries on the Norwegian coast.
Dristian Høydal, Managing Director of NSK Shipping, said: "We are very proud to once again win the trust of the BioMar Group to deliver relevant feed products to the fish farming industry and to work closely with Rolls-Royce to provide environmentally friendly and efficient The LNG powered ship."
Helge Gjerde, President of Marine and Merchant Marine Systems Solutions, said: "The modern technology jointly invested by BioMar Group and NSK Shipping Company can effectively reduce fuel costs and reduce environmental impact. Both parties are leading in offshore shipping."
It is understood that the entire LNG propulsion system includes an 8-cylinder Bergen C26:33 gas engine with a power of 2160 kW; a Promas integrated paddle rudder system; a side thruster and a side thruster; and a set of Rolle Royce Automation and Dynamic Positioning System.
In addition, the ship is equipped with a Rolls-Royce hybrid shaft generator (HSG) propulsion system. This means that the ship's main engine can also generate electricity for the entire ship at different speeds, thus effectively reducing fuel consumption. Moreover, the shaft generator can also be operated as a propulsion motor (PTI condition), so that the diesel auxiliary machine can also carry out the whole ship propulsion when the ship is in operation.
The Bergen B and C-Series gas engines emit 22% less CO2 than conventional diesel engines (including methane emissions), 90% reduction in NOx emissions, and virtually eliminate sulfur oxide emissions. The LNG system can effectively reduce maintenance costs while providing a more comfortable working environment for the crew.
According to the plan, the ship will be completed and delivered in 2017.
