Determination method of non-metallic component sulfur in iron and steel materials

At present, in China's steel companies, common carbon and sulfur steel analyzers are used to detect the content of metal sulfur in common materials such as carbon steel, high- and low-alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, ductile iron, alloy cast iron, and ferromanganese. The use of advanced spectrograph detection methods for metal components, combined with the combination of the two to make metal materials more accurate, is also the most advantageous “magic weapon” to ensure product quality.

Often in the continuous development of our country's steel industry, steel quality is the "magic weapon" for business survival. Iron and steel is an alloy of iron and C (carbon), Si (silicon), Mn (manganese), P (phosphorus), S (sulfur), and a small amount of other elements. In addition to Fe (iron), the content of carbon and sulfur plays a major role in the mechanical properties of steel. In the detection of metal materials, sulfur is a harmful component of metal materials. Therefore, the detection of sulfur has become a routine inspection item for the detection of metal materials. The result of the inspection is one of the important evaluations of the difference between material quality and performance.

Determination of sulfur in metal materials:

1, the sample by high temperature oxygen combustion, so that sulfur into sulfur dioxide, after absorption can be determined by a variety of methods, such as iodometric method, conductivity method, infrared absorption spectroscopy and so on.

2. The sulfur in the sample is converted into sulfate and the interference component is separated and removed to determine it with a barium sulfate gravimetric method.

3. The sample is dissolved in an oxidizing acid solution and an oxidizing agent is added to convert sulphur to sulphate, and then a reducing agent is added to reduce the sulphate to hydrogen sulphide. After absorption, it is determined by photometric or potentiometric titration.
